Play BackWords is a two-player tile game on a 15×15 board — like classic word games, but words can go any direction including backwards. Made by Wee Hours Studio.

Play BackWords is a two-player word tile game on a 15×15 board. Each player draws 8 tiles from a shared bag and takes turns placing words. Standard mode includes backwards play, a Golden Tile, and all board bonuses — this is the default game.
Tap or click a tile from your rack to select it, then tap a board cell to place it. Keep placing tiles to build your word, then tap Submit.
You can also drag tiles directly from your rack onto the board, or drag a placed tile to reposition it. To reorder your rack, drag tiles into the order you want.
Shuffle randomises your rack. Recall pulls all placed tiles back.
Words can be played in any direction — left→right, right←left, top↓bottom, or bottom↑top. A word played right-to-left is valid as long as it reads correctly in that direction. Later plays can extend it from either end.
If the bag has enough tiles (8+), you can swap any of your tiles for new ones via Options ⚙. Your turn ends. You can also pass your turn. After 6 consecutive passes the game ends.
The game ends when a player empties their rack while the bag is also empty, or after 6 consecutive passes. Remaining tiles in each rack are deducted from each player’s score.
During your opponent’s turn you can freely place tiles on the board to plan your move — they won’t submit. Hit Recall to clear.

Bonus squares activate only on the first tile placed on them. After that they are locked and score face value only.
Doubles the point value of the tile placed on it.
Triples the point value of the tile placed on it.
Doubles the entire word score, applied after all letter bonuses.
Triples the entire word score. The most powerful square on the board.
Acts as a Double Word for the very first play of the game only. Every game must begin here.
ⓘ Word multipliers stack — two 2W squares in one play = ×4 total. Letter multipliers apply only to newly placed tiles, not tiles already on the board.

One random rack tile is swapped for a random tile from the bag. You keep your turn.
Return 3 tiles of the same letter to the bag and draw 1 random tile in return.
Discard a tile, draw 2 new ones. Must play at least one this turn — unplayed new tiles go back to the bag.
Draw 3 tiles from the bag, keep 1 of your choice, put the other 2 back. Must play the kept tile this turn or it goes back.
The Lurker skips its next move — no movement, no eating.
Peek at your opponent's full current rack.
If you score 30+ on your next turn, that score doubles.
Remove any locked tile from the board — it returns to the bag. Does NOT cost your turn. Once per game.
When the bag is empty and you are trailing: your next word scores double. Last resort.
Return all your tiles to the bag and draw a fresh rack. Does not cost your turn. Needs 8+ tiles in bag.
Flip a coin on submit. Heads: score doubles. Tails: score goes to zero. Pure gamble.
Swap a rack tile for a blank on the board. Your tile locks in; blank returns to your rack. Costs your whole turn.
Reveals the highest-scoring word from your current rack. Very expensive — last resort only.

Coins are your spending currency — separate from XP. They’re earned the same ways as XP but used for in-game purchases, not progression.
Coins cannot be earned in Chaos Mode — Chaos is where you spend them. Earn coins in Standard games, then bring them into Chaos.
All coin purchases are available in ⚙ Options during a Chaos Mode game.

A roaming golden square that triggers a random scoring bonus when your word lands on it. Here are all possible effects:
Chaos Mode adds unpredictable events to the board and lets you spend coins on abilities. ⚜️ Club members only. Unlocks at Level 5.
A rogue entity that appears on turn 2. It moves one step on every chaos action — word plays and ability uses alike. It hunts the highest-value locked tile it can find. When it reaches its target, it consumes that tile — the cell goes blank. Using an ability is never free.
In Chaos Mode, blank tiles don’t fix to the letter they were declared as — they lock as _ on the board and stay wild. Either player can play through a locked blank using any letter, as long as the word is valid. The blank still scores 0 points.
Each player can use up to 2 Chaos abilities per move. Tap 💀 Chaos to see all abilities, costs, and confirm before spending.

Classic Mode is straight word tile play — no Play BackWords twists. Just vocabulary, strategy, and the board.
ⓘ Classic is the same ruleset as Classic (Ranked) but without tournament ratings — great for casual play or practice.
Classic (Ranked) is the official competitive mode for Lake City Scrabble Club — the same rules as Classic, but with tournament-style ratings.
ⓘ Ranked games count toward the club leaderboard. Play Classic (unrated) first to warm up.
Banned accounts. Use the Players tab to ban/unban.
Create events with dates, rewards and objectives. Activate them to make them live.
Create and manage competitive seasons. Only one can be active at a time.
